Englewood Beach is the most popular
beach on Manasota Key. Parking costs 25 cents per hour from 9:00 AM to
4:00 PM. There are no lifeguards, but picnic tables, showers, and restrooms
are provided. There's no concession stand, but there are many places for
food nearby. But don't stop,
there
are lots of beaches.
Next, spend a day on Boca Grande. Continue down to the southern beach to the 13-acre Gasparilla Island State Park. You'll enjoy a walk down the beach to the beautiful Gasparilla Island Lighthouse.
Staying close to town, you can enjoy the Port Charlotte
Beach
Complex, a public beach at the northeast end of Harbor Boulevard in Port Charlotte.
The beach complex offers a banquet hall, fishing pier, tennis, volleyball,
playground area, basketball courts, bocci, a boardwalk, horseshoe pits, a
pool (at annual or daily rates), a snack bar, boat ramps, barbecue grills,
and picnic shelters. What're you waiting for?
Just jump in a boat and cruise.
Plan a day trip to Cayo
Costa State Park. The park occupies
most of an island which lies in a chain of barrier islands that shelter
Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound from the storms of the Gulf of
Mexico. This park is accessible only by private boat or passenger ferry
services. From Cayo Costa, you're just a short ride down the intercoastal
waterway to
Cabbage Key and lunch. Just park your boat at the island marina and go to
the old house for an enjoyable and relaxing meal.
The rivers are ideal for canoe trips or kayaking. For information on all types of boating adventures, check out the links page.
Why not? Charlotte Harbor is home to the best tarpon
fishing
in the world. That's right, the best tarpon fishing in the world. Huge
tarpon gather in the pass between Cayo Costa and Boca Grande and the
babies (from 30lbs to over 100lbs) cruise the harbor and rivers. If you're
lucky, you'll experience the spawning run of the calico crab when
millions of crabs flow through the pass and giant tarpon are in a feeding
frenzy. The harbor and rivers are also home to fantastic red fish and
snook fishing. Since the net ban in the '90's a good fishery just keeps
getting better. The best fishing advice I can give is to use one of our experienced
area guides
Golf is a year-round activity here and this area has its share of great courses.
Water, trees, and sand combine to create many
challenging holes. During season, many clubs require that you use
a cart. In the off-season, walking is allowed. Don't let the occasional gator disturb your
concentration! Click here for a list of local courses.
Area parks have plenty of available courts. Venice, Englewood, Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte have private clubs, where you'll find league play and quality instruction.
